The Tanger Outlet Center and Premium Outlets bring in approximately 11 million shoppers per year, offering values on major brands of clothing, house wares, accessories and cooking necessities. Those seeking to browse boutiques and discover unique dining can do so on the San Marcos square, located in the Downtown District. The Square and surrounding streets feature local restaurants, coffee shops and even mobile food kiosks, providing everything from laidback lunch atmospheres to fine dinner cuisines. For after-dinner entertainment, San Marcos provides a variety of nightlife venues. The square provides something for everyone – from dancing and drinking to comedy shows and live music. San Marcos is just 30 minutes south of Austin, so those who are still looking for more nightlife can find it conveniently.                 

Texas State University- San Marcos is home to nine NCAA Division I men’s and women’s athletic teams, in addition to several club and intramural teams. Games, matches and tournaments are held weekly, providing sports enthusiasts with optimal opportunities to support the Bobcats.  Additionally, the university showcases its fine arts departments on a regular basis. Art gallery exhibits rotate on a regular basis, and the department of theatre and dance holds a series of performances each semester, from musicals to modern dance.

With the opening of the new Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, thousands gather yearly for special events and business affairs.
